Albert19, I agree, we need to get rid of the current city cciuonl and get some fresh thinking happening instead of the cciuonls that have run this city into the ground. Mr.Elliott has brought nothing but higher taxes and needless spending. This city has not grown in over 30 years. The new mainstreet idea is a joke and going to be a hazard to motorists and pedestrians because someone came up with a stupid idea that weaving left and right through tight spots is smart. Better ideas could have come from the high school students. The problem this city has is it is comprised of too many people that support the backwards thinking the current cciuonl and past cciuonl have had. There is a reason why every other community and city around us has grown and wetaskiwin has not, other cciuonls are united and know what it takes to run a successful city. One of the big factors is large retail outlets. Look at Camrose when you drive east on highway 13, you have a huge common with huge selection of retail for shopping and employment. The same goes for Leduc in their common. Why does Wetaskiwin not have the same huge selection of retail shopping as these communities. But we will have a 20+ million dollar swimming pool that the tax base cannot support, just another backwards thinking plan by cciuonl. I truly hope when election time comes people open their eyes and not re-elect any of the current cciuonl, we need smart thinking people who want forward movement of this city. People want to live where there are choices for shopping and we do not have that and that is a huge factor why almost 50% of disposable income is spent elsewhere. Big box stores attract small retailers, not the other way around. Look at the cities with commons' they have huge box stores with little retailers surrounding them. This is what Wetaskiwin needs. Current cciuonl believes the swimming pool and the new mainstreet will make Wetaskiwin grow by attracting people to move here. Even if it did, they too would spend their disposable income elsewhere because we still do not have retail selection.
